Portfolio

A portfolio is only part of the story

I have been building and repairing web systems for more than 26 years. Some of that work was independent, some was done in production hosting environments and for roughly the last thirteen years most of my professional development work was corporate, where I worked as a senior web engineer rather than actively pursuing freelance projects.

At the time, I did not see much reason to maintain a traditional freelance portfolio. Sites change owners, businesses close, companies change direction and software gets replaced. That is simply part of doing business on the web, not necessarily a reflection on the developer who built the original system. Because I was no longer trying to sell freelance work, I also did not spend those years archiving screenshots of projects that later disappeared or changed beyond recognition.

So this is not a complete historical catalog of my career. It is a growing collection of work I can still document accurately and stand behind.

PHPOG itself and Freehold CMS are probably the strongest current examples of how I work. Between them are PHP application design, database architecture, APIs, ecommerce, security, server administration, performance, publishing workflows, migrations and the less glamorous production work that keeps software understandable and dependable.

That matters more to me than filling a page with old logos. I would rather show fewer projects with enough context to explain what I actually did than imply ownership of work I can no longer verify. I will keep adding projects here when I can represent the work accurately.
